| This
expanded safety oversight programme adds
air traffic services, airport ground facilities, airport
ground aids and some aspects of aeronautical information
services to their audit visit list. GAA
certainly also believes that aviation security will be another area to
be scrutinised in the very near future.
As regards these new items, in addition to looking at the
national regulations for compliance with the Standards and Recommended
Practices, ICAO will very likely dedicate some time during their
Safety Oversight visit to inspect selected aspects for compliance at
one of a States national airports.
To
be sure that you are prepared, GAA will, at your request, carry out an
independent technical pre-onsite audit to view and report as to
whether airport standards and recommended practices reflect the
technical requirements prescribed within the ICAO publications, its
Annexes and Manuals, and national State regulations.
Moreover, GAA will seek to ascertain whether operational
practices and procedures comply with any differences that a State may
have brought to the attention of ICAO for promulgation within the
appropriate Annexes in accordance with obligation imposed by Article
38 of the ICAO Convention and the Council’s resolution of 1950.
Remember that unless
your facilities and operational systems meet the requirements of the
technical specifications and criteria prescribed within the above
mentioned ICAO documentation your airport safety standards may be
risk.
